Being born in Sydney's Western Suburbs in the 1960s, during what was known as 'The Boomtown'. Within a family full of creatives, he spent the first six years of his life growing up within and alongside large families, which resulted in strong community ties. The Government had provided cheap housing on low interest loans for lower and middle income families to purchase a family home. Those were the days 🙂
With a shift to the Northen Beaches from 6 to 12yo, had a large impact on himself and his siblings. Exposure to more natural surroundings, the bush and the beach, have a profound impact on James and his artwork.
Since then, he has travelled around Australia and become more and more influenced by the creatives of his era. Australian artists such as Whiteley, Tucker, Drysdale, Preston, Coburn, Streeton, Cossington-Smith, Smart and Storrier along with others. Internationally, the big guns of course Dali, Picasso, Matisse, Riley, Van Gogh, S.Delauney, Modigliani, Magritte, Marc, Malevich, Da Vinci, Michel Angelo, Archipenko, Moore and so many others in between.
From a career point of view, after studying for a Fine Arts Diploma, James started off as a screenprinting artist working for major fashion companies in the city before switching to working as an illustrator / artist within the animation industry. After a stint studying and working in Architectural drafting, James study Traditional & Digital Graphic Design, that's what he does today while maintaining creative endeavours in his personal time.
